CLASSIC CONTEMPORARY BLEND

CHELSEA COURTYARD

Our client had just completed extensive renovations to their elegant Chelsea home and wanted a garden that would compliment the interior design style of modern-classic. The brief was to create a design that had a clean, contemporary feel while remaining sympathetic to the existing classical elements such as the wrought iron railings and steps and Yorkstone paving. We kept the original planter layout but raised them slighty in order to utilise them as informal seating. These were finished in hardwood which is durable and ages well with the elements. Stainless steel screws add a polished touch.  Horizontal cedar battens screen the neighbouring properties.

The high wall at the back of the garden was softened with climbing Jasmine supported by stainless steel wire set to a symmetrical grid pattern. This was designed to frame a future focal point sculpture or plant. Spherical Boxwoods planted below provide a pleasing contrast to the grid above. Brushed steel lights in the planting beds illuminate the surrounding plants and the feature Acer tree is lit by a flush fitting light in the patio. A Fermob dining set of table and chairs sits perfectly with this style of garden.
